Yes, you read that right. For someone who loves the holiday season and adores music, many are surprised to find out that I despise Christmas music.
I love Christmas. I really do. I love the traditions we hold in my family, the sights, sounds, and smells of the holiday season.
There is no real reason for my distaste for Christmas music.
Perhaps it is the sameness of all the songs, the fact that it is only appropriate for one month, or the fact my roommates begin playing it in September.

I understand I sound like an absolute Scrooge by hating on the festive and cheerful music that put people in the ‘spirit.’
However, as I began to consider why I hated the music, I realized that not all Christmas songs are bad…
After reminiscing for a bit, I came to remember that there are a few Christmas classics that never get old.
Ray Charles has such a captivating, soulful, and smooth voice. In all honesty, this song is so beautiful I could listen to it year-round.
1. "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" by Bruce Springsteen
This version is the only version. Of course, it’s gotta be the official audio--you know, the one they play on the radio all the time.

2. "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses
Need I say more? If I couldn’t contextualize the lyrics, I wouldn’t even think this is a Christmas song. A classic tune, and the music video rocks.

3. "Spirit of Christmas" by Ray Charles
Ray Charles has such a captivating, soulful, and smooth voice. In all honesty, this song is so beautiful I could listen to it year round.
4. "Let Me Sleep (Its Christmas Time)" by Pearl Jam
Leave it to Pearl Jam to release an unlikely Christmas carol, right? Released in 2003, "Let Me Sleep (Its Christmas Time)" suggests the lonely feelings of the holiday season for those who have no one to celebrate with.
Check out the band perform the song live in 2016:
